LANGDON, Lucille Ruth (Heideman)

Born September 9, 1933 in Republic, Washington. Is now at Home with Our Lord in Heaven, July 20, 2008, Spokane, Washington. Lucille was a long-time resident of Spokane. She loved her family, friends, and music. Nature was a source of joy for her. Lucille was a Mary Kay Consultant and a Seventh Degree Member of the Malo Grange.

Preceded in death by her father Henry William Heideman (1900-1976), mother Ruth Madge (Fletcher) Heideman (1909-1983), and brother George Heideman, U. S. Army S. Army Veteran of Boise, Idaho.

Survivors include children Kathleen Rae (Langdon) Cole of Spokane; Earlene Sue (Langdon) McCullough and family, granddaughter Cerissa (McCullough) Baum and husband Terry and great-granddaughter Chandra, and grandson Christopher McCullough of Spokane; William Allan Langdon of Spokane; Earl Langdon Jr., wife Sandy and granddaughter Stephanie Langdon of Marysville, Washington; Loren Eugene Langdon of Spokane; brother Clarence Heideman of Colville, WA; sister Ardis Taylor of Spokane; and many loved family members and dear lifelong friends. Services will be Saturday, August 23, 2008, 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, Washington.

LILLY, Carol Eleanor Carol was born in Spokane January 10th 1930 to Mel and Alma Jarvis. Carol grew up in Spokane. She married Don Lilly in 1953. She is survived by her husband Don, and their five children, Greg (Gale) of Spokane, Jeff (Judy) of Clayton, Lauri Penaluna (Ric) of Deer Park, Scott (Leslee) of Mead, Doug (Mary) of Clayton, fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Carol and Don lived in Colbert Washington for many years and raised their family there. Ten years ago they moved to acreage on the Little Spokane River near Elk Washington. Carol loved floating down the river on her inner tube with members of her family and she also loved spending time with her family at the cabin on Priest Lake. Priest was her favorite place on Earth. While there she spent many happy days swimming, water skiing, picking huckleberries, and sitting under the stars in front of a nice warm beach fire. Carol enjoyed gardening and rock collecting; especially looking for heart shaped rocks which she gave to people who were special to her. She had numerous bird feeders which also attracted many deer. Seeing God's many creatures always brought her a sense of wonderment and joy. Carol loved buying gifts for her family and Christmas was her favorite holiday. The gifts she gave her loved ones weren't elaborate or expensive but they were truly gifts given of pure affection. In January of 2007 Carol was diagnosed with cancer. She fought a brave battle. The abundant love and support that surrounded her all the days of her life were even more apparent during this difficult time. She lost her struggle peacefully, while at home on August 18th, 2008. Her family was by her side in person or in spirit right to the end. Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Heritage Chapel. SHROFE, Dolores Ardel (Age 72) Loving wife, mother and Grandmother, Dolores Ardel Shrofe passed away August 16, 2008 at her home in Spokane Valley with her husband and children by her side. She was born in Blaine, Washington on October 8, 1935. She was the daughter of Claude E. Whitton and Lorraine Shirley Stinehart. She grew up in Cle Elum, Washington. In the early 60's she moved to Spokane where she spent the rest of her life. She is survived by her husband John E. Shrofe, her seven children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and two brothers: sons Steven Chicklinsky of Spokane, Ed (Roberta) Chicklinsky of California, Doug Chicklinsky (Jackie Stipe) of Spokane, Jess Chicklinsky (Michael Hoefs) of Seattle; daughters Connie L. Purcell (Jeff Ranschau) of Cle Elum and Idaho Falls, Idaho, Jackie L. (Tom) Neilson of Spokane, Connie R. (Dean) Biernacki of Post Falls, Idaho; brothers Dennis (Pat) Whitton of Scottsdale, Arizona and Darrel "Jack" (Sharon) Larcom of North Bend, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her sisters Delvina Roundtree and Ike Tye, and brother James Whitton. Dolores retired at the age of 67 from Motel 8. She and her husband spent her last years enjoying the summers in Northport in their RV where she enjoyed the love of nature, the flowers, wildlife and the many birds, especially the humming birds that float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The humming bird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation. She had always been a selfless mother, always thinking of her family first. She touched the hearts of all she knew. May she rest at last with the memories of love she has given us. Funeral Service will be held at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home, 1315 N. Pines RD, Spokane Valley, WA on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.. BURKHART, Beverly (Farrington)

(Age 87)

Went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Gail Burkhart, Janis Burkhart-Wendle and husband Ron; son Gary Burkhart and wife Marie; eight grandchildren, Jason Brown and wife Tammie, Matt Brown and wife Melissa, Janell Wendle, Alicia Wendle, Leah Wendle, Brad Wendle, Gary Burkhart, and Robert Burkhart; and three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Ryan, and Brandy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Burkhart (1977); as well as her parents, John and Mabel Farrington; and her brother, William Farrington. Mrs. Burkhart was born August 11, 1921 in Farmington, WA and has been a resident of Spokane most of her life. She graduated from North Central High School and attended Kinman Business School. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for JC Penney. She was a member of PEO and the American Business Women's Association. She was also a member of Country Homes Christian Church, and later First Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services will be at 1 PM on Friday, August 22, 2008 in the Alwin Chapel at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST. Interment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Gideons, or to the First Church of the Open Bible Building Fund. "A special thank you to the staff at Alderwood Manor for their loving care of our mother."

CANTER, Melvin Ray Was born July 17, 1927 in Lewiston, ID; passed away August 17, 2008 in Spokane. He is survived by his wife of 47 ½ years Della; sons: Melvin B. Canter, Michael Stoker, Steven Stoker, Timothy Stoker; daughters: Cheryl A. Libby; Tina Tobler and Anabell Muse; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Coast Guard. He worked for his parents in Canter Faultless Products for many years. He retired after 17 years, working for District 81. JACKSON, Ina M.

(Age 81)

Of Spokane Valley, WA passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008, she was born October 18, 1926 to Claude and Florence Carter in Blackduck, Minnesota. Ina is survived by her children, Jim and Linda Jackson, Dan and Jeanie Tremblay; grandchildren, Kevin, Amy, Jim, Connie, Troy, Cyndi, Mike, and Kristi; great grandchildren Marissa, Matt, Carissa, Michael, Amy, Brady, Brett, Josie, Carter, and Abby; great great granddaughter Haylie; many special nieces and nephews; two brothers and three sisters in Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, two brothers, and three sisters. She married Ray Jackson in Long Beach, CA and they had 52 years together. Ina loved fishing, gambling, sapphire digging, visiting with her family and camping, especially sitting around the campfire telling stories. She had many very special people she took under her wings. Ina poured love and encouragement into everyone she came into contact with. She was quite a character who kept her sense of humor throughout her long battle with lung disease. In keeping with her wishes there will be a private graveside service for the family. A Celebration of Ina's life will be held at a later date. KRUEGER, Kenneth R.

(Age 59)

On Sunday, August 17th, the Lord called to His side the soul of Kenneth Raymond Krueger, age 59, of Spokane, WA, formerly of Menomonie, WI. He passed away at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. He was born August 20, 1948 in Menomonie, WI to Henry and Violet (Maves) Krueger. Ken was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He attended grade school at St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1966. Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and earned the rank of Sergeant in the 101st Air-borne. He received several medals, including two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After his military service, Ken worked briefly at 3-M in Menomonie before moving to Cheney, Washington where he pursued a degree in geology at Eastern Washington State University. He purchased Showalter's Tavern in Cheney which he owned and operated for several years. In the mid-80s he moved to Spokane where he served as a postal carrier for many years for the U.S. Post Office, until his disability retirement five years ago. Ken was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie and a member of V.F.W. Post #51 in Spokane. Ken loved playing dart-ball as well as English darts and was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan. Ken is survived by a sister, Donna (Tom) Chaudoir of Menomonie; a brother, Thomas (Karen) Krueger of Menomonie; nieces and nephews, Scott (Alex) Wagner of Savage, MN, Jenny(Kevin) Hanson of Eau Claire, Nicholas, Lucas and Andrea Krueger, all of Menomonie; a beloved aunt, Alma Maves of Menomonie. He is also survived by cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Violet Krueger, grandparents and many well-loved aunts and uncles. An 11:00 AM Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at the HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST., SPOKANE, WA with visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A second Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, August 29th, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Visitation will be at the Olson Funeral Home Thursday evening, August 28th from 5:00-8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul's Church Cemetery immediately following the service, with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.

SCHATZ, Wilford Otto

Formerly of Spokane Washington, passed away on August 17, 2008 at the Quincy Convalescent Center. Bill was born at home in Spokane on September 19, 1914 to William and Emma Schatz. He grew up in Spokane with six brothers and sisters that he looked up to. He believed his brothers Art, Vic and Gene to be brilliant, and his sisters Erma, Hazel, and Eleanor to be kind. As a boy, Bill delivered newspapers and helped in his father's grocery and corner store. Bill recounted many tales of his boyhood, including chasing down robbers and helping his dad feed the miners from Montana. He loved to tell stories. Bill was also an artist, inventor, checkers player, writer, beekeeper, fisherman, tandem bike rider, and birder.

Bill graduated from Spokane's North Central High School in 1933. A few years later, one of his father's customers sporting a wide brimmed yellow hat caught his eye. He and Lucile Latta married in 1941 and raised two children, Suzanne and Jennifer. Over the years, Bill worked in a variety of industries including furniture moving, the grocery business, real estate, and the Spokane library system. Bill and his family enjoyed visits to Priest and Loon Lake. Bill also enjoyed working in his garden on Greenwood Blvd. After retiring, he and Lucile spent time in Mesa, Arizona, where he gardened and played the harmonica in the Venture Out band. Bill and Lucile were together for 66 years until her death in 2007.

Bill Schatz was a Christian who shared his faith with others. He had said that if he truly believed one thing, it was this: "Jesus loves me. This I know." Before her death, Bill had asked his older sister Erma, to save him a seat at heaven's great feast. To his surprise, she responded quite seriously, "I will." In more recent days, Bill frequently alluded to Erma; and we firmly believe that today, Wilford Otto Schatz has finally taken his seat beside her at the Lord's table.

Bill is survived by his daughter Suzanne Score and husband Dick of Everett, daughter Jennifer Doncaster and husband John of Quincy, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife Lucile, his brothers and sisters, and parents. Funeral Services will be held on Monday August 25th at 9:00am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane Washington, with graveside services after at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane Washington. BLESSING, William Isador (Age 83) Was born in Spokane on September 9, 1924 and passed away in Spokane Valley on August 15, 2008. Bill was a lifetime resident of the Spokane Valley and worked for the Spokane County Highway Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Jane Blessing and Michael Anthony Blessing; sister Lucille Blessing Mantooth and nephew Terry James Hansen. LINCOLN, Margaret Louise (Bailey)

Mother passed on August 15, 2008 as a result of a stroke and complications. She was lovingly attended by her daughters: LaNette Harper and KayeLincoln while at Holy Family Hospital. Margaret was born August 9, 1927 in Potlatch, Idaho to Lloyd and Florence Bailey, the oldest of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Royal F. Lincoln in 1998; her oldest son, Robert E. Lincoln, 1969; her second son, Lloyd E. Lincoln, 1968; and her brother, Kenneth Bailey in 2007. Surviving her are LaNette Harper, Kaye Lincoln, and Duane Lincoln; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lois Noble, Donald (Dolly) Bailey, Phyllis (Don) Batten andEdward Bailey. MITCHELL, Hardy W. (Age 43) Passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 in Spokane Valley WA. Hardy was proud of the eight years he served in the US Army. He was into a lot of things but especially loved cars; car shows, building hotrods, and NASCAR. Camping and fishing with his family was another of his favorite things. Hardy was a friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand. A great husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, who was loved and cherished by all and will be greatly missed. SWEENEY, Madge Carrolle

(Eggleston, Hochhalter)

March 21st, 1936 - August 12th, 2008

Born in Ulysses, KS; raised in Grand Coulee, WA. Preceding her in death are her son, Douglas Eggleston, and her husband, Ken Sweeney. She is survived by her other five children and spouses, Jerry and Kim Eggleston, Glen and Marie Eggleston, Carrolle and Bart Knowles, Lezley and Frank MacLeod, and Janet and Jerome Shepherd. Madge has 12 grandchildren and two beautiful great-grandchildren from Lezley's family. She worked her early years for the Federal Bureau of Reclamation at Grand Coulee Dam, then the Spokane Symphony. Madge then fulfilled her dreams of owning a floral shop but not just one; she owned two. After retiring from the floral shops, she then worked at Eagles Hardware, where she completed her retirement to enjoy life with her husband, Ken, and beloved dog, Sam. Madge was very proud of all her grandchildren. Along with being a devoted mother and grandmother, she has been known to adopt many others during her lifetime. She adored her flowers and the beauty of nature. She also loved oil painting, gardening, and traveling. Her loving heart was plentiful and her door was always open with generosity. Our mother will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind, gentle, and selfless person. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. With all our love, we will be honoring her at a Memorial Service on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 3:00 PM at the Eagles Lodge Aerie #2, 6410 N. Lidgerwood in Spokane, WA. JONES, Carol Louise

Our mother, Carol Louise Jones, long-time Spokane resident, died July 12, 2008, in Seattle. Memorial services will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Spokane, 2:30 p.m., on August 22nd.

Born in Spokane in 1921 on Easter Day, she was the fourth daughter of a Norwegian-American family from Minnesota who had moved to Spokane after several years in Sandpoint, Idaho. Carol graduated from North Central High school in 1939 and attended the University of Washington. While studying music there, she met her husband, Clair. In 1947, she discontinued her education to marry and raise a family. After several transfers with the Kress chain store, our parents decided to return to Spokane. In 1954, they signed the first small store lease at Northtown, the city's first shopping center. Their business, Harvey's Fine Clothing, flourished over the next three decades, growing into several clothing stores in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

With Clair, Carol Louise quickly became engaged in civic life. They were co-presidents of Shadle Park HS PTA and of the Spokane Community Concert Association. They became early supporters of Governor Dan Evans, eventually leading all his campaigns in the Spokane area. They were heavily involved in Expo '74. One of her proudest moments was her role as official hostess to then-governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter. Carol Louise was also a long-time member of PEO, a stalwart member of the Sons of Norway lodge, and an enthusiastic ringer in Knox Presbyterian's handbell choir.

Over several decades, she graciously opened up her home to dozens of students from all continents via AFS and Rotary programs. Stays varied from three weeks to more than three years, resulting in a huge extended family that still calls her "Mom". She once explained that she hosted so many students because she and Clair could not travel in the early years of building their business, but wanted to expose their sons to a wider world. After the business-building years, our parents visited Europe several times, spending time with all of their "children". Most recently, she and her older sister Lorraine traveled up the Yangtze River to celebrate Carol Louise's 80th birthday. She made this world a kinder, more peaceful place.

Our mother was hard working, famously well organized and selfless to a fault-- skills she needed to help build a family business and raise three sons. Our father often said that the best decision he made in his life was to propose to Carol Louise. Most will remember her kindness and sympathy, gifts she shared with strangers and friends alike. She was always ready with an extra plate at the dinner table, a clean bed at the house, and a warm welcome to new faces brought home by husband or sons.

Carol Louise is survived by her three sons: Patrick, Harvey and Philip; daughters-in-law Jaydene, Nancy and Laurie; grandchildren Nathan, Olivia, Genevieve, Emmaline and Melissa; siblings Lorraine and Donald; numerous nieces and nephews; and her children all over the world.
