No impact fee decision ... yet

According to Liberty Lake's City Council agenda, there will not be a decision to enact impact fees at Tuesday's meeting. So, hurry up and buy that house before the next meeting, October 17. (That's an exaggeration. The bill will likely have a later effective date.) ( Full post )

See, the number for the Best Western Peppertree Inn was written down wrong ... it actually dials a man named Randy Long, who apparently has been getting phone calls from room-seekers in the middle of the night. Last Saturday night, Liberty Lake Police were involved in two car chases, both of them started outside of the city. ( Full post )

Biggest Manufacturer

Huntwood Industries, which makes cabinets and is based in Liberty Lake, also happens to be the largest manufacturer in Spokane County. They employ 686 people, more than even Kaiser Aluminum, which has 590. (The Spokesman-Review comes in fourth, at 543 people.) All this is according to a report in the Journal of Business. Explosion

Growth explosion, that is. Between 1990 and 2005, the population of Liberty Lake greew from 2,015 to 5,255, a 161 percent increase. The only city that comes close to that figure is the city of Airway Heights, which went from 1,971 people to 4,640, a 135 percent jump. All data is from the U.S. Census bureau. ( Full post )

Arboretum progress

The city plans to get started on its arboretum this summer. Currently homeowners associations are having naming contests in the local school to try and get the ball rolling. The city is working with the homeowners associations on this project, said Doug Smith, director of planning and community development. ( Full post )
