Statesman: Jorgenson-Hart Pushing Bad Bill (DFO)

Sen. Michael Jorgenson (pictured), R-Hayden Lake, and Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, will try again with a bill that could suspend or revoke the business license of any employer who knowingly hires illegal aliens. In arguing for his bill in a recent Coeur d'Alene Press article, Jorgenson actually exposes one of its weaknesses. "The state's only recourse to curb illegal immigration is enforcement through employers." Bingo. The state cannot possibly address the other factors that contribute to a dysfunctional immigration system. Only the federal government can set up a security system that keeps people from crossing the border illegally, address the status and the fate of the estimated 12 million people in America illegally, and set up a guest worker system that ensures employers can find the laborers they need/Idaho Statesman. More here. The problem is two-fold, said Kelly Buckland, executive director of the Idaho State Independent Living Council: Some people without handicapped-parking permits park illegally in handicapped spots. People who shouldn't be using disabled parking permits are using them - and usually getting away with it because of uneven enforcement. They did the right thing,” said Eric Louis, a Coeur d’Alene High School English teacher who was among more than 100 people at a special board meeting to consider the novels. “We’re a district that understands … honoring academic freedom. Many structural and equipment problems associated with frigid weather don't occur until it thaws, but issues have already arisen. A busted pipe shut down the Post Falls Public Library on Monday afternoon and at least part of today. Repair firms responded to a deluge of calls, including a rancher in the Twin Lakes area who was without water for his 100 head of cattle.

I’m about to call it a today, Merry Hucksters. It hasn’t been a good day. The blog certainly didn’t provide material that you’ve come to expect. But we muscled our way through it. You didn’t see a lot of photos b/c I’m still trying to come to grips with the process. Soon, Blogmeister Ryan will flip the switch. And you’ll all be headed over here by default. Some of you have said that you don’t like the look of the new site. Or you’re bothered by registration. Or it doesn’t have the feeling of the old one. We’ll address many of those things in short order. For example, we’ll add blogrolls — and other things that you became accustomed to with the old site. I’m out of my comfort zone. You are, too. But things should continue to get better as I figure out what I can do with the new site … ( Full post )

Blogmeister Ryan's planning to throw the switch on the new SR.com and our blogware. We're going to have to crawl before we can walk with the new Huckleberries Online. I was breaking it apart when I first saw it until Blogmeister Ryan said, Hold on there, Bucko. Give me a chance to iron out bugs. I'm not sure what's in the comment package on opening day. But I know a preview feature has been planned. On the other hand, I don't think I'll have room to replicate the blogroll on opening day. I consider that among the most important features. So we'll wing it for awhile. We could experience a weird day as I test drive the new software. Be prepared. The switch will be flipped around noon. BTW, registration will be required. Now, for your Wild Card ...
